I love pansies! My father grew carrots and my mother planted pansies and other flowers in our backyard. But together they turned our front yard into a haven of lush greenery and vibrant flowers lined with decorative stones.
Their garden captivated people passing by and was admired by everyone in the neighborhood. So I grew up with the beauty of nature as I played with my sisters and friends. Little did I know that this same beauty would someday wake up my soul to being a light of God's peace and joy to others.
I was calm as a child, but as life became difficult for me as a young adult, I let my emotions take control of my life. I was negative and selfish. All I could see was what was happening to me, rather than looking at the needs of others. I felt like I was drowning in a sea of my own emotions, unable to get beyond the darkness that clouded my mind.
However, a frightening event in my life led to advice from a woman in my church. At first, it seemed harsh. She shared that her life didn't change for the better until she centered on helping others during her most difficult times.
"We need to love others the way God loves us," she said with a soft smile. I just stared at her not knowing what to think. But it didn't take long for God's love to move my heart. I took her lead, and I'm so thankful that I did.
From that time I was committed to keeping that Biblical concept growing within me. Once my priorities were set straight, I found healing which came with the sweet remembrance of my childhood memories, especially of the beautiful pansies and their delightful fragrance.
Later in my life I decided to paint "A Garden of Pansies" because they seemed to represent a sense of connection to my past, evoking great thankfulness in me that I am in control of my life to choose joy and peace over sadness and emotional pain. This painting is based upon a beautiful pansy painting I found a some time ago. It is sold as shown at right with a gold floating frame. The canvas is inserted from the front of the frame, so there is no glass.
