The Sunflower
The first flower I grew from a seed was a sunflower at the age of 9 in my own little garden, complete with green worms and mulch made by my father. I grew about 8 of those majestic flowers, but they lived for about 3 months and then died.
I think they needed more sun where I had planted them, but I never forgot the joy of growing them. Later as an adult, I came to realize how important living in the light is for people. The Bible consistently uses the metaphor of light to represent truth, goodness, holiness, and God's presence, while darkness symbolizes sin, ignorance, and evil.
I didn't fully come into myself until I came to live in the light about who I was. Studying the Bible helped me to stop trying to be all things for the people in my life to avoid confrontation.
I made the choice to be truthful about who I was so that I can always live in the light. I lost some people in my life and I'm sorry about that, but it's oppresive not living in the truth to help others avoid it.
Living in darkness creates fear and worry. This is why it is a fundamental imperative to live in the truth. It positively impacts our relationship with God, ourselves, and others. It reveals who we are and builds our confidence.
Most of my art reflects the brightness of life, because I want to reflect this light of truth to shine through my work to reveal the heart and it's deepest truths.
