My New Lakeside Pastel Painting Is Titled, "The Promise"
His parents had owned a vacation lake house, so it's no wonder that he would fall in love with sailing, even at age 9. His young heart dreamed of owning his own sailboat and setting off on grand adventures across the shimmering water.
His parents were reluctant at first, but since he was their only child, they soon gave in to his pleas. His father bought a small sailboat and spent weekends teaching him how to sail correctly and safely. Jared was ready to take on the world! But first, he had to promise that he would remain close to the shore at all times. Reluctantly he made "the promise."
The rest of the story plays out with Jared at the stearn of his little boat, ready for his first solo cruise, which is represented in my pastel painting. However, what you can't see are his parents, watching from beyond the sand amist the trees. They would never leave their small son alone to navigate outside their watch should he need help.
Later when Jared learned the truth as an older child, he realized the true depth of his parents' love and care for him. They had trusted him to explore the world on his own terms, but they had also been there every step of the way, silently watching over him, ready to lend a helping hand when needed.
And with that realization came a valuable lesson about trust, responsibility, and the delicate balance between freedom and protection.
As a reference, this picture can also be placed in an 8" x 11" frame. The sanded paper can be cut to this smaller size and not lose it's magic feel.
This painting was inspired by a boy named Jared who knew that he was born to sail after his parents bought him his first toy sail boat at age 2.
Since that time he had begged his father to get him his own sail boat and teach him to sail it.
